Henry

is a Latino resident in internal medicine. During a nighttime admission, a patient refuses to be seen by him because he does not want a “gangster” as a doctor. The patient threatens to call ICE to remove Henry. Another resident agrees to admit the patient. While Henry is able to maintain a professional demeaner, he is very upset. In the morning he speaks to his on-service attending and program director about protections for him when he returns and the patient is still admitted; they are not sure how to proceed. Their lack of a plan makes Henry worry he is being too sensitive.
